Web template tips, External CSS (cascading style sheets), "effective" web design for your targeted market, worthwhile resources and other relative topics of interest to webmasters will be discussed by the Web Template Designers at BasicTemplates.com. You can also meet our designers on a personal level, discover their personal and professional trials and tribulations and join in on the office chatter regarding many popular (and sometimes) controversial topics.
Hey folks. Just a quick message to let you know I'm back in town. I have a *ton* of blog drafts to approve for publication for you from the past NINE days. Okay, it seems like a ton anyway. :)
Don't worry though. We are working on an alternate plan for blog updates when I'm not available for draft approval. So in the future let's hope this "dead blog" appearance will not rear its ugly face again.
Speaking of "dead" and "ugly face", we hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween weekend. Boo!

Personal Power II
Here's my educational contribution to BasicRic's recent blog post request.
This past summer I completed Anthony Robbins' Personal Power II home study course. If you are not familiar with Anthony (Tony) Robbins, you would be doing yourself a HUGE favor by ordering at least one of his audio tapes. He's a world renowned motivational speaker and one of the nation's most successful, self-taught entrepreuners. Even though Tony's techniques were developed, practices and tested prior to the birth of the public access Internet, his techniques incorporated into traditional web marketing practices mesh well together.
Since I completed his Personal Power II course, I've input several things I learned that sparked a create idea for me into the suggestion box at BasicTemplates.com. Those suggestions that were implemented thus far have been a complete success.

Carolyn 101: Business Lessons from The Apprentice
BasicRic asked me to post a blog entry in regard to what I'm currently reading, studying or exploring to improve myself as a web designer and business associate. BasicRic is always stirring things up here to get everyone to post a blog entry. He's really big into blogs, as you can see. This was his brainchild and I believe a good one too since blogs are very popular these days. Most of us here at BasicTemplates.com had our own personal blogs when Blogger was a newborn, but when you get busy with other projects some things just have to go. Blog burn-out can also happen, trust me.
Anyway --- Two days ago my new book, Carolyn 101 : Business Lessons from The Apprentice's Straight Shooter arrived and I am having a great deal of trouble putting it down. It started off a bit slow, but now I have to force myself to set it aside so I can get my work done. One of the things I like most about the book is that it is packed full of little business tips or quotations just like you see in the TV show, The Apprentice. These little tips are the biggest reason I watch the show, so the purchase of this book was a good investment for me. It's inexpensive too ... appropriately $15.00 USD.
I'd highly recommend this book not only to business-savvy woman but also to men especially if they work with women or who have a female boss. If you are an Apprentice fan, this is a must-read.
I worked in the corporate management field for 20 years prior to starting my own company. When I hit the age of 40 I decided the corporate world was no longer my calling and couldn't see myself giving it another 20 years. But I learned so much from my experience working for a major corporation during that time, and I use these experiences constantly in my own business dealings every day. I would not be where I am today if I had not gone through the corporate-world process.
If you buy this book, drop me an email and let me know what you think. Maybe we can compare notes and ideas. ;-)

Continuing Education
Continuing education is critical in the business world. No matter how smart you are or what at age you are. Unfortunately, you will never know it all but you can certainly try. Seriously though, having a successful business depends on how much you know about the business world and your target market.
One of the things BasicTemplates asks their staff and template designers to do is to take a minimum of one business related course (online or offline) and read a minimum of three books that are business related every year. BT pays for their courses, materials, software and books because an in-the-know employee (or independant contractor) is a major asset to every company. The staff members like this idea too, of course. ;)
To make this coming week's blog entries interesting, I've asked each staff member and template designer to post a little something about what course, book, or other educatonal resource they have recently studied. You will find some rather interesting information coming your way.

Iframe Web Templates
All of our new templates this week contain the iframe feature. Even though these designs are themed toward Halloween, autumn and some have a feminine style, they can easily be converted to any theme you wish without interferring with the iframe feature. In most cases, by simply swapping out the background image and replacing it with one more appropriate for your needs and then editing the colors in the external style sheet, you have a new theme within a few minutes.
Oh yes, they also have those cool colored scrollbars which so many people like to use. If you don't like the colored scrollbars and validation is a concern for you (colored scrollbars will not validate), simply remove the associated code within the external style sheet. It won't have any significant impact on your template.

Seasonal Web Templates
Ahhh ... Autumn. It's my favorite time of year. Why? Because the air is crisp and clean. The leaves change color and frost creates interesting and often "invisible" patterns on the steps of our deck. Thump-thump...Ouch! ;)
Halloween is my favorite holiday as you might have guessed. Trick-or-Treat is a blast in our town and usually lasts long past the designated time. I don't mind though. What I do mind is running out of candy.
If you are not interested in seasonal designs, our designers already thought of that too. Two of the predesigned header packages are themed toward the real estate business and the dating service industry.
All five of our HTML-CSS web templates this week have the ability to swap-out the header graphics either with our predesigned headers or your own of the same dimensional size. The rollover navigational buttons are controlled entirely by External CSS.
You will notice that one of our new templates has a Christmas theme. I know, I know... Why am I rushing the season? Well, if you have been in any store lately, they already have their Christmas items on display. We sold our first Christmas template of the year in mid September and nearly everyday more leave our servers going to some very happy and on-the-ball customers. Retailers nearly always work 6-9 months ahead of the coming season. Some prepare as far as 12 months in advance. My brother-in-law has an on-the-side woodworking job that caters to the Christmas season. He begins his woodworking projects 10 months in advance because sales skyrocket as soon as the weather gets cooler.
If you live in the northern hemisphere ... Enjoy this fantastic time of the year!

Broadband Speed & Help Forum
I wanted to pass along a great resource to get up-to-date information about your broadband ISP, check your Internet connection speed, compare your Internet connection speed to others' speed using the same broadband ISP service, and communicate with folks who use your broadband service.
You will find a wealth of information here. Highly recommended!
