" What is a PSD file (PSD
Template)? "
PSD files are generally a layered file that is proprietary
to Adobe
PhotoShop. However, this file format has become
so popular over recent years, that many other graphic
software programs (newer versions) have programmed
their software to be compatible with this file format. Adobe
PhotoShop is an expensive program, however,
two programs that we know can open and edit PSD
files which
are less expensive and quite good are Jasc
Paint Shop Pro 7+ and Ulead
PhotoImpact 7+.
" How can a PSD file (PSD
Template) help me? "
PSDs are useful in that they can enable the designer
to change colors to an image, add image layers,
or remove
image layers. Adding text is also easy with a PSD file,
however, it is not necessary to have the PSD file
to
do this. Our PSD templates are unsliced and give you
the flexibility to slice them as you wish for your
needs with your graphics software of choice
(not
just Adobe
PhotoShop). It is important to note that the designer
must be familiar
with how
to
use
their
graphic
software
of
choice in order to perform such tasks using a PSD file.
Since there are dozens of good graphic software programs,
we cannot offer specific program support. Support for
any third party software would be provided by the developer
of the software.
" Why am I charged extra
for this file? "
Our templates and annual membership are far below the
industry standard for the quality you receive. Making
the PSD Template files available free often encourages
the misuse of them. If you purchased a web template
elsewhere and received the PSD file free with the package,
we can guarantee that you paid a minimum of $20.00 USD
(likely closer to $50.00 USD) for the template. That
is far above our individual template price even with
the added cost for the PSD file, IF you need it. :)
We charge separately for PSDs simply because not everyone
needs or wants them, and it brings the cost down to
a level that the majority of site owners and designers
can afford. BasicTemplates' subscribing
members receive a discount price for a PSD: Members
$3.50 each -and- Non-Members $5.00 each
" How can I be sure my
graphics software is compatiable with the PSD format?
"
Download our sample PSD test
file,
unzip it, open the .psd into your graphics software
program. If it opens without error messages and allows
you to move the layers, delete layers, create slices,
and save a layer as a new image, your graphics software
is likely
compatiable.
If you are still uncertain, contact the software developer
and ask or check their website FAQs or the help section
of your graphics software. Download

" How can I buy a PSD Template
file? "
Contact our PreSales staff
and request a payment link if one does not already
exist in our Web
Template Gallery. Be sure to specify the
PSD Templae file number (it corresponds to the template
number). Be aware that not all PSD files are available,
and many of the PSDs "only" include the images
- not the entire layout. None of our PSDs are sliced
making them editable with any compatiable graphics
software. Since our templates are strategically designed
using CSS
for
fast loading
and
effective
design,
most of the layouts were coded/designed "manually"
and were not simply sliced/diced images exported from
a PSD file. :) Our Terms of
Use
policies apply to our PSD Template files.
